Additional Information
Dr. Maromi Nei will discuss the topic of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), including an overview of the issue: what it is, who may be at risk, and what we can do to reduce the risk. She will review the latest research, including why people with epilepsy are more vulnerable to premature death than the general population and possible causes for SUDEP. The latest data suggest that we are making progress in reducing the risk, and this session will discuss steps that people with epilepsy can take to reduce their own risk. Edana Perry will share her daughter Kayla's story, including how important it is to talk about and raise awareness about SUDEP.
