Healthy Adolescents Promoted by Partners for Youth (HAPPY) Project

Posted over 5 years ago by Lori Kelley

A Healthy Relationships Project that Supports the School Nurse Role in Adolescent Health Promotion and Protection

Funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Health and managed by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV), the Healthy Adolescents Promoted by Partners for Youth (HAPPY) Project is a new abuse prevention and intervention initiative dedicated to preventing and ending adolescent relationship abuse (ARA).

ARA is a health issue and school nurses can be key health partners in abuse prevention and intervention. Incidences of ARA in a community can be reduced and survivors benefit most from coordinated and collaborative services with community partners such as school health offices, domestic violence programs and reproductive health providers. HAPPY Project partners, including Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners (PASNAP), are promoting the use of the following tools and materials developed by Futures Without Violence to help school health providers address ARA with the understanding that there is often sexual abuse that may include reproductive and sexual coercion such as pregnancy pressure and birth control sabotage. Feel free to contact Lori Kelley for PASNAP-related questions (pasnapnurses@gmail.com) or Fern Gilkerson at PCADV for HAPPY Project-related questions (fgilkerson@pcadv.org) and watch for representation of the HAPPY Project at the 2019 PASNAP conference!
