PASNAP Advocacy Efforts

Posted almost 4 years ago by Lori Kelley

First, I want to thank you for  participating in our zoom meetings and  collaborating with PASNAP to compile a list of concerns for returning to school.  Here is a list that we compiled.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XzGmp7T6996PCATkFuIEpmY3OZOnrTA3FS-GTlmdTuM/edit?usp=sharing
Please let us know if we missed anything.
Be aware that PASNAP is using the list of concerns to advocate for School Nurses across Pennsylvania!      We have sent advocacy Letters to Govornor Wolf, Dr. Levine, The Director of the Division of School Health for PA DOH, The Division of Immunizations for PA DOH, The Pennsylvania School Board's Association, and The Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators.
As a result:
  1. Cheryl Peiffer and Lori Kelley were interviewed by the PA School Board Association-- Once our interview is published, PASNAP will send it out to our membership.
  2. As a result of that interview, Cheryl and Lori  were given spots on the task force that is comprised of several organizations, including the School Board's Association, PSEA, School Administrators and several others.  Shenessa Rosetti (our PR Chairperson) and Cheryl Mattern  (a former PASNAP President) are also there.  We had our first brainstorming meeting on Friday and will meet again this coming Friday.
  3. The executive board met with Colleen Schultz, The Director of the Division of School Health for the PA DOH.  Please know that she is advocating for us.  She has been reaching out to PDE to collaborate.  We had a productive meeting.  She received the message that we are in need of guidance from the DOH and she agrees.  She stated that she is optimistically hoping to get us a framework by mid-June.  That will depend on the required approvals.
  4. The Division of Immunizations has responded to our Advocacy Letter and are taking our concerns seriously.
  5. The Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators will include our concerns in an upcoming newsletter

In addition to the above efforts, Pa Action Coalition is interviewing 3 CSNS regarding school nursing and Covid 19 to create a podcast.  That podcast will be linked on our website, once it is available.
I want to thank all of the PASNAP members advocation for our students!
