What is the Legislative Auction?

Posted over 2 years ago by Lori Kelley

What is the Legislative Auction?  The Legislative Auction is the primary means in which PASNAP raises money for the School Nurse PAC Fund (political action committee).

What is the PAC Fund? The PAC Fund is a separate account that provides funds for our lobbyist, Morgan Plant, to be able to attend political fundraisers in Harrisburg. At these political events, she develops and maintains relationships with lawmakers from both parties in the PA Senate and House. Through her encounters and conversations with legislators, Morgan promotes PA school nurses by explaining to those in Harrisburg how legislation will affect our practice and the children we serve. In turn, she provides us with important alerts and updates on legislation that will affect our practice.

How can I support the School Nurse PAC Fund? It is your contribution to the PAC Fund and your support of the Legislative Auction that helps our lobbyist “get in the room” to strengthen our voice and influence political decisions. You are asked to donate because PASNAP membership dues do not contribute to political activities.  (Similarly, members of PSEA or the PFT are also asked to donate to their PACs because union dues cannot be used to promote political candidates or causes). PASNAP regularly reports PAC expenditures and income to the PA Department of State’s Bureau of Campaigns and Elections.

Please support the Legislative Auction! This PAC fundraiser, our largest during the year, helps promote PASNAP’s special interests to legislators in Harrisburg. The basket/item donations are all truly wonderful and it is a fun time for all!  Additionally, your ticket purchase will help assure that school nurses’ voices are heard, especially vital in the current political climate.
