EFEPA Seeking Camp Volunteers

Posted about 2 years ago by Holly Verderame

Good Afternoon Medical Professionals & Partners,

After a successful Young Adult Retreat, The EFEPA is setting our sights on Camp Achieve (August 13th-18th) and The Adult Wellness Weekend (Sept. 15th-17th). These programs are made possible by Medical Partners like you, who volunteer their time to provide children with a safe space to enjoy the wonders of summer camp, and to give adults a chance to escape into the great outdoors while connecting with others who share their epilepsy journey.

Attached to this email are flyers for both of these programs, and registration is open at http://app.campdoc.com/register/efep. If you do not have the time right now to officially register but do plan to volunteer please fill out this quick and easy survey about volunteering at Camp Achieve and Adult Wellness Weekend:

Eventually as it gets closer we would need you to register through campdoc as it is our electronic health record system for the programs.

The campdoc link is where your patients can register as participants, as well as where you can register to volunteer! Please share these volunteer opportunities with your colleagues, and anyone who may be interested in attending, either as a participant, or a medical volunteer!

EFEPA Staff and long-time medical volunteers will provide guidance, support, and will always be present on-site during these programs so you will feel confident and prepared with your responsibilities prior to and during these events.

Camp AchieveSunday, August 13th - Friday, August 18th @ Camp Green Lane, Green Lane, PA (Counselors arrive August 12th and we will need medical volunteers then as well)

Camp Achieve is a week-long sleepaway camp specifically designed for children ages 8-17 years old living with epilepsy. Every August, we welcome kids to experience the magic of Camp Achieve while a safe, supportive, inclusive environment is ensured by 24/7 medical supervision. Join us for a week jam-packed with fun, traditional summer camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, arts & crafts, a talent show, and so much more! The best part? Campers meet other kids and counselors who understand the challenges of living with epilepsy, build lasting friendships, and grow!

Camp Achieve Medical Volunteer Main Responsibilities: Assist with Camp Achieve Medical Check-In; Assist with medication administration, at set times in the AM and PM, as well as as-needed throughout the day; Assist in the secure storage of medications; Respond to seizures and administer Seizure Rescue Medication (all camp counselors receive basic seizure recognition and first aid training); Provide basic, non-seizure related first aid; Move about camp with a group of campers to enjoy Camp Achieve and provide medical support; Participate in Camp Achieve activities, spend time with campers, and enjoy the great outdoors!

It's our goal to have 6-7+ Medical Professionals on-site at Camp Achieve at all times, with 1-3 professionals able to be on-call overnight. Attached to this email is the schedule of current medical professionals who have volunteered to staff Camp Achieve this summer, and should give you a good idea of the holes in the schedule we need to fill. Whether you can volunteer for a single afternoon, or the duration of the week, every little bit helps bring summer camp to life!

Designed for adults ages 30 years and older, the Adult Wellness Weekend provides a safe space for individuals living with epilepsy, or those caring for a child or spouse with epilepsy, to relax, reflect, and recharge, all while connecting with others facing similar daily obstacles. Activities and group sessions will include nature walks, music and art therapy, meditation and mindfulness exercises, and other restorative practices, wellness techniques, community building, and self-care strategies. Medical professionals are on-site for the duration of the retreat to ensure a safe environment.

Adult Wellness Weekend Medical Volunteer Main Responsibilities: Assist with Adult Wellness Weekend Check-In; Provide Seizure First Aid and Administer Seizure Rescue Medication as needed;  Provide basic, non-seizure related first aid as needed; participate in Adult Wellness Weekend activities with participants to social, meet, and enjoy the company of others; Enjoy the great outdoors!

We’re seeking 3-5 Medical Professionals to volunteer their time over Adult Wellness Weekend, joining us for rest, relaxing, and recharging, as well as assisting with seizure first aid, and rescue medication administration.
