Free CEU Available to All PA School Nurses on Type 1 Diabetes Screening Awareness Toolkit

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN)’s Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Toolkit: Educating Families About Early Detection Screening for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) provides evidence-based recommendations to assist the school nurse and other school leaders in raising awareness and educating families about T1D and T1D screening options to facilitate conversations with their family’s healthcare provider. Multiple resources are included in the toolkit to facilitate these conversations.
All PA School Nurses, including PASNAP Members and Non-Members can view a free 41 minute toolkit orientation presentation on the PASNAP website and receive 1 CEU Act 48 credit. The orientation covers the three sections of the toolkit and highlights example situations in which the toolkit will be most useful for school nurses. The content includes an introduction and overview of T1D; evidence-based information about T1D and T1D screening; online T1D resources for school nurses; and a T1D decision tree for referrals. The toolkit contains helpful handouts for parents/caregivers and sample communications for the school to disseminate T1D information to the community.

Two “Question and Answer Sessions” hosted by NASN Representatives Deborah Vazirani and Rodney LaPoint live via Zoom are available to all PASNAP Regions.
