Helpful Resources for School Nurses

Posted 1 day ago

Dear School Nurses,

As you prepare for the start of a new school year, we wanted to share a few resources to help parents and educators better collaborate with you to improve students' health. Designed with the help of NEPA-based school nurses, links to customizable and easily-sharable flyers are below.

For Parents and Caregivers: 10 Tips for a Healthy School Year

Parents receive a lot of information at the start of the school year, so we've created something colorful, eye-catching, and customizable to help foster awareness.

This two-sided PDF includes a full article with ways to help students have a healthy school year, and the back contains a more easily digestible graphic with additional tips.

Once you download the PDFs, you can fill in your own information and print, email, or post the customized PDFs online. If you like, you can even forward along to your district's administrative team and ask them to share this information on social media.

For Educators: What Your School Nurse Wants You to Know

We've also created a one-page PDF for you to share with your colleagues, educators, or even school board members.

It includes tips to help educators assess when it's a good idea to send a student to the nurse's office and when the student may be able to remain in the classroom. It also discusses the importance of sharing information related to student health and family circumstances to allow you to better meet student needs.

We hope this resource can help make communication at the start of the year a little bit easier. It's also available in English and Spanish.

Pennsylvania School Nurse Mentorship Program Sign-Up Reminder

Also, we are excited to continue our partnership with Penn State PRO Wellness on the Pennsylvania School Nurse Mentorship Program. There is still room for mentees (CSNs in the first few years of their school nursing career) to register for this year's cohort. This program connects experienced school nurses with those who are new to the career to create opportunities for collaboration and professional development. The program is free and includes Act 48 opportunities.
