Attention School Nurses Working within the 18356 and19335 Area Codes

Posted over 7 years ago by Lori Kelley

Parent Heart Watch, the national voice for sudden cardiac arrest prevention in youth, has partnered with the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) on Get Charged Up!—a pilot program that models the importance of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERP) in schools.

As part of an American Heart Association task force, NASN was instrumental in the development of a CERP template that empowers nurses to take a leadership role in protecting their campus community. As a co-member of this task force, Parent Heart Watch created Get Charged Up! to support putting this plan into action.

The pilot program takes place during Heart Month in February 2017. The program includes an AED being awarded to a local school from Parent Heart Watch, with support to install the device and implement a CERP, as well as tools to share critical information with their community about sudden cardiac arrest prevention in youth.
